Abstract

Here is a small 3½ x 5¼ complete La Fontaine with a T of C at the back of 339 pages. It is hard to know what is meant by the promise Nouvelle édition, dans laquelle on aperçoit d'un coup d'oeil la moralité de la fable, since the fables seem to be printed as they would be printed anywhere else. There are four engraved plates, each with six lovely small panels. They are found as frontispiece and facing 66, 151, and 263. OCLC WorldCat lists the book as having only 3 pages of plates. As the seller notes, this is a worn copy in full calf leather with a black spine label. The rear cover is detached, and the covers are worn, rubbed, and warped. Ownership history written on half-title and the verso of the frontispiece plate. Sold -- originally, one presumes -- by Berard and Mondon in NY City. Not in Bodemann.
