Abstract

Bodemann puts this book in the family of Griset's Aesop by Rundell in 1869. She gives "ca. 1875" as its date. As Bodemann points out, the prose and verse texts correspond extensively to those in the Rundell edition. She also points out that the title-illustration here is new. Its accent is on the animals -- monkey, lion, bear and others -- having a good time. Bodemann lists fifteen authors used here; each is acknowledged after each of his contributions. The Griset illustrations, often not well printed, are well done here. Griset is a lot more fun when he is well printed! Bodemann #344.3.
