Abstract
In the reading from Luke today we hear the familiar doomsday clean up your act idea. To paraphrase this in holiday terms one might sing...||You better watch out, you better not cry, You better not pout, I'm telling you why, Jesus Christ is coming to town.|This has always impressed me as being a survivor mentality. I want to pass the test, survive the trial, pass through the veil of tears. Is the test my life? Is the trial my humanity? Is the veil the world I live in? All these notions seem to require a backward glance. I prefer to think that my experience of Jesus transforms me to a forward looking person...from a survivor to constructor.|Just what am I to be about building? Well, the kingdom as I read about in Revelation, that's what I'm about. Following the example of Jesus, not worrying about the personal cost, not measuring the investment against the reward, not seeking the big payoff, I am about the business of making the kingdom of God a reality which I am commissioned to do as a member of the body of Christ.|The fuel that drives this massive construction project is a spirit of THANKSGIVING. Thanksgiving as we read about in the Psalm passage today, being ever so thankful for the framework of this place once known as Paradise, I can really build feverishly renewing the face of the earth. Having just celebrated the Thanksgiving Holiday, it is most appropriate to designate the whole world a "Hard Hat Area"...."The Lord's Work In Progress."
