Increasing Nurse Confidence in Caring for Trauma Patients through Simulation Based Training

Abstract

The number of patents who present to an emergency department every day is steadily increasing. One of the top reasons for a patient to present to the emergency department is after a trauma event. Research has proven that there is no sustainable way to decrease the number trauma events. Therefor, the only way to decrease the number of negative outcomes due to trauma is to prepare the healthcare team who will be responsible for caring for these patients. Simulation is frequently utilized for training and preparing healthcare teams, as it provides a realistic and hands on experience. Simulation also increases the confidence levels of the participants. If more nurses participate in trauma simulation, they will be fore prepared and more confident in their ability to care for the pediatric trauma patient who presents to the emergency department.
