Abstract

As the opening T of C shows, there are sixty fables here on some 64 pages. The seven colored illustrations include two pairs and one full-page picture. Perhaps thus one colored page with a pair of illustrations has been lost. The full page is a frontispiece of DLS. The nicely paired pictures are for FC (32) and FM (48), The surprising total of 217 text illustrations is achieved by offering two to four small black-and-white illustrations alongside each fable. The cover gives an example when it shows four illustrations for AL. Good sets of sample illustrations are those for The Lion in Love and The Man and the Satyr on 58 and 59. Except for the apparently missing page of colored illustrations, the book is in good condition for its hundred years of life.
