Born October 10. 1906, of German parents in Moscow Russia. Moved to Germany in 1914, PhD at University of Berlin, 1928. Exchange student at the University of California, Berkeley 1928-29. Editor Osteuropa until 1933. Foreign correspondant, Moscow, 1934-36. Assistant Professor, University of California Berkeley, and University of Hawaii, 1936-41. Professor and Editor the XXth Century, Shanghai, China, 1941-45. At Russian desk of German Office for Peace Questions, Stuttgart, 1947-49. Editor-in-Chief of weekly Christ and Welt, Stuttgart, 1949-54. Professor of Political Science at the Intitute of Technology, Aachen, Germany, 1961-72.
SUMMARY
Survey of the three international majors: USSR, PRC US. Maoism confuses USSR analysts because it does not fit within boundaries of dogma. Maoism requires revolution every seven or eight years to prevent hierarchies or regional leaderships from solidifying. The USA is in forefront of modern thought: Monday in the US, Tuesday in Germany, Friday in the USSR. Future of the USSR is in the hands of a younger generation that includes 20 million intelligensia - trained in science, keeping political views to themselves for now, but visible by 1990. Detente is a Mutual Suicide Prevention Pact. Very interesting Q+A session.
