This little volume is unusual in having a series page, then a pre-title-page, and then a title-page. The pre-title page identifies this volume as Selections from the Writings of Mrs. Barbauld by Mrs. Sarah J. Hale. The publisher on this page is Thomas H. Webb & Co. The title-page then has Things by Their Right Names and Other Stories, Fables, and Moral Pieces in Prose and Verse Selected and Arranged from the Writings of Mrs. Barbauld with a Sketch of Her Life. Whew! The publisher is again Thomas Webb & Co. Some pieces are identified as fables but I would include others as well: The Goose and Horse (29); The Phenix and Dove (67): The Young Mouse (79); The Wasp and Bee (80); The River and the Brook (94); The Pine and the Olive (112); and Confidence and Modesty (220). Inscribed in 1847.
