Abstract

This book is associated with another in the collection. That other book is oversized (10 x 13), presents 49 fables, and has two kinds of illustrations: paste-in initials and full-page illustrations. This volume is smaller in format (5¼ x 8¼), presents some 123 fables, and has only one kind of illustrations. The full-page illustrations here are larger versions of the initials there. Other changes are curious. Though the texts seem to be identical, Prahl's work there was introduced by I Fri Gengivelse ved, which means something like free representation by. Here we have instead Udvalgte og Genfortalte af, that is, selected and retold by. The selected fables are presented here in La Fontaine's order. The other volume had no concern for that kind of ordering. Jung's publishing house here lists only Copenhagen; there it listed Aarhus and Oslo as well. A final curiosity is that Bøger & Kuriosa listed this book as published in 1968. I can find no other date in it than 1918. Among the illustrations, do not miss FS (39); 2P (98); and Plague Among the Animals (129). T of C at the end. Marbled covers with cloth spine and corners; might they have come from 1968?
