Abstract
"In today's Mail I received a pamphlet entitled: ""The The education fund is one Archbishop's Education Fund. matter that has been occupying my mind for some time. In conscience I do not see how I can contribute to this fund. For years many faithful Catholics working in race relations have been waiting for the Church in Omaha to assume the mantle of leadership in the racial justice struggle. They endured despite insults from many of the pastors and apathy from the majority of the Catholic Laymen of Omaha. It is apparent that the racial Justice struggle will not be advanced by this educational expansion program. Nothing has been said of including any anti-discrimination clause in the building contracts, and money for racial justice projects will be hindered within the Catholic Community. The Catholic Interracial Council was disbanded many months ago in the understanding that en effective Archbishop's Commission would take its place. The delay in forming this body manifests the importance the Archdiocesan policy makers place on this problem. I will evaluate the amount of money which under happier conditions would be my fair share contribution to the Education Fund and give it instead to various organizations making a bigger contribution to the racial justice cause in Omaha."
