Abstract
Sometimes the simplest tenet can be the most powerful and can help ground us in what's important. Today's responsorial psalm has as its response: "God is with us." What a great reminder that we are not alone as we start the day or end the day. "God is with us" as individuals and as a community. "God is with us" can help us ground our fears and hopes.||We can fill our ups and downs with the powerful prayer. "God is with us" can lead to a prayer of thanksgiving when all is right with the world. Uttering the prayer on a deep breath can help calm an anxious moment.|"God is with us" also is the prayer we breathe in when we watch a child sleeping or listen to a toddler laugh with the sheer joy of the moment. In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus says, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven." We must strive to be like children, innocent, open and trusting in God.|Today is the memorial of the Guardian Angels, another way God is with us. In the Gospel, Jesus says the angels of little ones always look upon the face of God. One of the first prayers many of us learned as children was to our guardian angel. The words remind us that God is with us: Angel of God, My Guardian Dear, to whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side, to light and guard and rule and guide. Amen.
