Abstract

There are four two-page stories on the sixteen pages of this narrow (3¼" x 6¼") pamphlet. The first is "The Fable of the Footsteps." An unsuccessful shoe seller finally gets wise. Moral: "Many a Shoe Man thinks that he should resort to Strong Arm methods, when all he needs is Armstrong assistance." A page after the stories enumerates "12 Armstrong Merit Points." Then three pages show off ten "Staple Armstrong Leaders," women's high-heeled shoes and boots. The most winning feature of this pamphlet might be the cover cartoon, in which two seated "shoe persons" converse. Each person is really a foot wearing a hat at ankle level. The back cover suffers, apparently from having been glued. This pamphlet is the quintessence of an ephemeral find!
