Abstract
Here is a volume squarely in the tradition of Gordinne Publishing. Our collection now has perhaps a half-dozen of these publications with typically poor bindings; colorful front covers; differences between cover title and title-page title; alternating colored and monochrome illustrations; wide variation in styles, especially among the monochrome illustrations; and confusing pagination pulling together seemingly separate books, often of 16 or 32 pages. The cover illustration here has the jug of milk not only falling from the milkmaid's head but wetting a rooster's tail. She is colorful in dress, with striped stockings; her surprised posture is highly animated. The cover title here is "Fables Choisies de La Fontaine," while the title-page has "Fables Choisies de La Fontaine et Florian." The biggest surprise in this copy is the consistent pagination from 1 to 198. CW here (5) is a colored version of the broom-wielding woman found in other Gordinne copies in monochrome. The canvas spine is better preserved here than in any of the other Gordinne copies, and the book is in general the best copy we have of Gordinne's unusual work. The final page gives a firm date of 1936 for the book
