Abstract
As I reflect on this week's Gospel from Luke 9 I imagined the context in which Herod was responding in his day and compare to today. Jesus is performing miracles and Herod is perplexed? I believe I would also be perplexed. As a member of the community I would be trying to understand what was happening? I believe I would be curious, perhaps fearful. In the first reading, I reflect on Haggai's call "Consider our ways!" What's to be done?|Currently the United States is experiencing a series of fires in California, Oregon, Washington and Montana and hurricanes in Texas and Florida. Mexico has experienced a devastating earthquake, monsoons in Bangladesh have caused record flooding with many lives lost and the beautiful islands of St. Martin, Barbuda and Antigua have been devastated from Hurricane Irma.|Although devastating, the volunteers, support from first responders and the monies raised gives promise that in times of despair we have an opportunity to care for each other. We are giving to each other and reach out to those in need. These acts of caring and giving show our humanity for each other. These humanitarian efforts make a difference and are remembered. However contributing, paying it forward and giving back are important as part of our daily lives. Give to those in need now, volunteer now. Make a difference for someone now. I can commit to do something everyday.
