Abstract

The presentation of the five fables here ("The Ant and the Chrysalis"; "The Horse and the Mule"; "The Crow and the Ram"; "The Lion and Three Bulls"; and "The Fox's Shadow") is consistent with the presentation of others in this series. The series itself seems to keep growing. The back cover of this volume shows 90 booklets now in the series. As elsewhere in the series, one design echoes the facing full page. Here the horse has to carry the whole dead mule, not just his skin. The artist has a great deal of fun with the facial expressions of the crow who overreaches himself to attack a ram. There is a good whispering lion on 34. Copyright 1992 Anime Kikaku.
