Aesop's Fables Complete
Alternative Title
Abstract
With this book, there are now four identical books in the collection. Lippincott changes the year of publication on the title-page with each succeeding year, and so Lippincott's editions of 1858, 1864 here, 1866, and 1868 are identical. Like the other three, this is a small-format James version of 203 fables on 208 pages, including a final AI. This book is in poor condition. The front cover is present but separated, and the spine is deteriorating. I believe that all four are more properly "Wolf/Tenniel" editions, since I think the reworked illustrations were already done in 1851. As I have noted before, it is thus ironical to keep printing James' introduction, as it thanks Tenniel. The very first illustration, FG (23) may be easier to decipher here than in the 1866 version. For this copy, the price was right!
