Abstract

My, what comes into this collection continues to surprise me by its variety! Here is another surprise! This is a Flemish journal of March 24, 1918 -- certainly an intense time to be alive in Europe. Specifically it is "Derde Jahrgang, Nr 25." It contains pages 385 through 400. Pages 387-390 are an illustrated article on the Dutch writer Joost van den Vondel, recognized by Encyclopedia Britannica as among the foremost Dutch authors, though neither EB nor Wikipedia mentions his fables. The article has a portrait of Vondel and four of Gheeraerts' wonderful fable illustrations. How lovely that this piece of ephemera has lasted more than 100 years!
