Abstract

The use of mock codes in the acute care setting has specific benefits for staff development educators. This Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project evaluated the effectiveness of an in-situ mock code program on patient survival to discharge, captured if nursing confidence was enhanced, and identified common barriers to mock code implementation. Mock codes are beneficial regarding nurse competence, improved cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance, and patient outcomes. Seeking better performance from the medical staff can greatly improve in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation discharge survival rates. The implementation of routine mock codes was conducted within a 260-bed nonprofit medical center identifying the efficacy and its impact on patient outcomes.
