Abstract

This oversized (10 x 13) volume appeared late in my conversations at Norlis Antikvariat. It is substantial! As the T of C near the end indicates, some forty-eight fables are presented. Just after that T of C is a list of the twenty large black-and-white illustrations. Besides those, there are many smaller black-and-white initials-plus-illustrations pasted in at the beginning of fables. Some of my favorites among the larger illustrations are OF (37); The Stag at the Water (33); De To Duer (41); The Old Man and the Three Youths (79); and The Hermit Rat (101). Among the smaller initials-plus-illustrations, do not miss FS (21); 2P (54); and Plague Among the Animals (61). The large illustrations tend to appear just before their fable. The spine and corners are in red leather, with marbled covers.
