Abstract

America's military response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks was an invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, toppling the Taliban government and pursuing al Qaeda remnants. This action was covered by Article 51 of the U.N. Charter as self-defense and carried forth under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Charter as a NATO operation. This paper analyzes the legality of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.
