A History of Creighton Memorial Saint Joseph Hospital. Omaha, Nebraska – 1958

Abstract

Progress was the keyword at Creighton Memorial Saint Joseph's Hospital during the year, 1958. It was a year that saw the purchase of land for parking, present and future. Several pieces of property in the proximity of the Hospital were acquired during the year, and one new parking lot across from the Main Entrance was opened for public parking in December. Following work for almost a year, the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company made the final connections whereby all Private and 2-Bed Rooms, with a few necessary exceptions, now have one-line service. 160 new telephones were installed and the Hospital now has 21 trunk-lines. Gross services to the patients, for the second consecutive year, topped the four-million dollar mark, with monthly cash income averaging $300,000.00. A change-over in new procedures for keeping statistics and patient records was made by the Medical Record Department following the installation of the new Addressograph equipment. Changes were also made in many of the Sister personnel, including the appointment of a new Superior, Sister M. Justa German, O.S.F. Sister M. Pacifica Woletz, Superior for three years at Saint Joseph's was transfered to Saint Mary's Hospital, Emporia, Kansas as Superior- Administrator. Of the new equipment installed in various departments, one of the most unique additions was the Stryker Cir-O-Lectric Bed, one of ten or twelve installed in hospitals in the United States. It is powered by an electric motor which allows bedfast patients to change their own position in several different ways. Three members of the Medical Staff passed away during the year, Zeno N. Korth, M.D., John A. Tamisiea, M.D. and Louis B. Bushman, M.D.
