Abstract
The theme of readiness in the Gospels may produce various reactions in persons. For some, unfortunately, it might bring to mind death and judgment at the hands of a seemingly harsh and punishing God. It may also signal the need to be alert and responsive to a loving and forgiving God present and working in our lives through the lives of others.||Another "spin" on readiness may be possible. The servants in today's account might be those persons committed to service in the Church, be they involved in liturgy, religious education or formation, social outreach or whatever. The spreading of the God's kingdom does not just happen. Much effort is required. The reversal of cultural roles here, the master waiting on the servants, does not merely point up reward for efforts but also provides an example of loving service.|Who are called to be such servants? Each and every Christian--in his or her own particular way.
