Abstract
The Creighton Memorial St. Joseph Hospital is the direct result of a bequest of $50,000 left by Mrs. John A. Creighton, who died on September 30, 1888. The happy and holy inspiration which prompted Mrs. Creighton to devote a portion of her fortune, as a nucleus of a fund to build a hospital, was munificiently seconded by her husband, the Hon. Count John A. Creighton, who added by bequest and otherwise, tenfold to the fund, and planned to build on a more magnificent scale than originally intended. The building and grounds represent an outlay of over $750,000; an enduring and beneficent monument to the memory of his wife and his own liberality.
The institution is located at the corner of Tenth and Castellar streets, on ground which for beauty of appearance and healthfulness is unsurpassed.
The modern care of the sick lias so advanced during the past few years, that any hospital, to be progressive and abreast of the times, must be supplied with trained and efficient nurses. The Sisters of St. Francis, many years ago recognizing this fact, have established training schools for the members of their order, and one of the best of these is in connection with this hospital.
Training School for Nurses
This school is under the control of the Sisters of St. Francis. It is affiliated with Creighton University College of Medicine, whose instructors conduct the classes and with Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs.
The object of the Sisters in conducting the training school is to form young women possessed of the necessary qualifications to the noble self-sacrificing and delicate duty of caring for the sick in an intelligent manner.
