BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Paul L. Laase, b. September 6, 1932, in Hastings, NE. Education at the University of Nebraska, graduation in 1954, attended the Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway on a Fulbright Scholarship. 1st Lt. in the Army Military Police Corp in Korea, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, receiving Masters' of Law, and Law and Diplomacy degrees. Harvard Business School Master's degree in Public Administration. United States Foreign Diplomatic Corp. specializing in Economic Affairs, with postings in Oslo, Rome, Sydney, Canberra and Brasilia.
SUMMARY
Mr. Laase offered a bland overview of U.S.-Australian relations in the standard "boxes" of economic, political, strategic. Other than standard briefing data he did note that Australia generally helps the US in multilateral forums - except on questions of the New International Economic Order where Australia's status as a primary product exporter gives her common interests with the NIEO contingent. Further he observed that younger politicos in Australia still remember US Vietnam activities with distaste.
