Abstract

Here is a classic children's version of Brer Rabbit stories, with classic black-and-white illustrations from well known artists. What strikes me on this reading is the contrast between the straight talk of the narrator and the fascinating -- and not always easy -- dialect of Uncle Remus himself. There is a list of full-page illustrations just after the opening T of C, and there are also partial-page illustrations scattered along the way. The cover illustration, affixed to the brown cloth, replicates the frontispiece: Brer Rabbit sits against a tree regaling the animals in a circle looking up to a bird in the tree. 295 pages plus 10 pages of advertisements. 5¼" x 7 ½".
