Abstract
It took several looks through this hefty volume (9" x 12", 127 pages) before I realized what it is. What I understand now is this: Mutsuko Kato took two documents published by the Jesuits in Japan, one in 1592 and the other in 1593. She translates each and adds her duochrome illustrations. I am unsure of what "translation" might mean here. I believe that the section devoted to Aesop begins on 50, with several illustrations from his life. The illustrations recall familiar stories like DS (53); WC (57); LM (61); FK (65); BF (67); GA (80); AD (81); WS (84); and BW (103). The front cover and dust jacket front feature a lovely colored collage of scenes from inside the book. A quick check finds the book available on Amazon in Japan.
