Abstract
Not having recovered from the focused opportunity to say "Thank you!" that the US holiday of yesterday provides some of us, today's feast offers the chance to reflect on just how much we might be willing to stand for if asked. St. Catherine of Alexandria paid the ultimate price for embracing the Christian religion: martyrdom. And there was some bit of torture thrown in, according to details not totally verified. A moment or two of prayerful reflection on those things that we would embrace even if called to deny them may be a fruitful exercise.||The First Reading maybe a surprise for you as it was for me. I had recalled that this type of dream is found in Revelations, not so. This dream of Daniel's prophesies the coming of the "Son of Man" whose dominion shall not be destroyed.|Finally, in the Gospel, Christ reminds us that the Kingdom of God is near and there are signs wherever we choose to look, even in the "simple" process of the seasonal cycle of growing trees. Our challenge is one of maintaining attention and intentional response.|Perhaps there is more than enough here to occupy our prayerful moments until the beginning of Advent on Sunday.
