Abstract

Here is a hardbound copy of a book I found canvas-bound 31 years ago. The book is the same with these differences in addition to the different binding. The title-page adds Bombay, Calcutta and Madras to the earlier London. The verso of the title page has two changes. It makes note of the first printing in 1930 but adds five subsequent printings, including this 1938 printing. It also moves the declaration of printer from 96 and changes from "R. Clay and Sons" to identifying the "R" as "Richard." As I wrote of the 1930 canvas-bound copy, it has simple but strong two-color illustrations and good tellings. Fifty-three fables, "chiefly Aesop's." The best of the illustrations is the leaping fox on 23. I asked then if there were more fable books in this series, and I wonder still.
