Abstract
INTRODUCTION|This Article is the result of cooperation between two authors who do not claim an expertise in each other's specialty. The senior author has taught family law for almost three decades and has drafted Louisiana's 1997 covenant marriage legislation. She claims no particular insights into the "murky area" of conflicts law. The junior author has taught conflicts law for more than two decades, drafted Louisiana's 1992 conflicts codification, and confesses ignorance of anything but rudimentary principles of family law. He has not supported the covenant marriage legislation, but has repeatedly stated that "the task of the conflicts codifier is not to alter, favor, or disfavor a rule of substantive law, but rather to help delineate its operation at the multistate level."
