Abstract

This two-staple pamphlet, about 8½” square, offers TH in 32 pages to read aloud and think aloud. The story is full of strong expressions both verbally and in the art. We see the rabbit running (“Tap, tap, tap”), and then running over the tortoise (“Waakh”) and moving on (“Wus, wus, wus”). An English-language reader may be surprised to see the finish line titled “Finish.” After a reading of the story aloud, there are two further steps: “think aloud” and “bookish play.” The first step includes parents pre-reading the story to see if it is suitable for their child. There are then plentiful questions the parent can ask the child about the story. “Bookish play” includes asking which foods either of the animals would eat. Other pamphlets in the series include “Ugly Duckling” and LM.
