Abstract
The World Health Organization proclaimed Cardiovascular heart disease (CHD) as the number one global cause of death (World Health Organization, 2016). In an effort to improve the overall health of the public the United States identified cardiovascular health within the Healthy People 2020 initiatives (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2016). In order to improve quality of life through prevention, detection, and treatment a patient's cardiovascular health needs to be reviewed during office encounters. Utilizing a cardiovascular risk calculator during free clinic office encounters enables practitioners to recognize patients in need of statin therapy.
